Junto con la soprano y musicóloga Palmira Irisarri interpreta cantos de amor y desamor así como hermosas piezas instrumentales, todos compuestos por compositores y grandes instrumentistas renacentistas y barrocos. Los dos artistas consiguen transmitir el espíritu y la magia de los temas originales, sintiendo y expresando con respeto, pero libremente, lo que aquellos compositores crearon en su día, sin recurrir a instrumentos de la época ni pretender recrear las piezas históricamente. Las obras de Luis Milán, Luis de Narváez, John Dowland, Esaias Reusner, Antonio Ludovico Roncalli y Johann Sebastian Bach suenan muy bien en la guitarra española, heredera directa de la antigua vihuela y del laúd centroeuropeo -instrumentos para los que fueron escritas las piezas-. Esteban Canyar la toca con gran sensibilidad y maestría expresiva, acompañado en las canciones por la dulce voz de Palmira Irisarri. Los villancicos y sonetos que interpretan los artistas -y cuyas letras figuran en el libreto del álbum- provienen de dos tesoros de la música española, el ‘Libro de música de vihuela de mano intitulado El Maestro‘, escrito por el gran vihuelista Milán, y de ‘Los seys Libros del Delphin, de música de cifra para tañer vihuela‘, del maestro granadino Narváez. Este último también transcribió a su instrumento la obra ‘Mille regretz’ de Josquin, favorita de Carlos V., la célebre ‘Canción del Emperador’, que destaca entre las piezas instrumentales. El conjunto se completa con obras de prestigiosos compositores centroeuropeos y con una improvisación sobre ‘Quant voie la flor nouvelle’, retazo de melodía de un trobador medieval desconocido. Renaissance and Baroque Music by La Rêverie

The album Ancient Mosaic with Guitar (Mosaico antiguo con guitarra ) is the work of Esteban Canyar, classical guitarist and founder of the Ensemble La Rêverie. Together with Palmira Irisarri, soprano and musicologist, they interpret songs of love and heartbreak and beautiful instrumental pieces, written by great instrumentalists and composers of the Renaissance and Baroque. The works of Luis Milán, Luis de Narváez, John Dowland, Esaias Reusner, Antonio Ludovico Roncalli and Johann Sebastian Bach, etc, sound good on the modern Spanish guitar, a direct descendant of the Spanish vihuela and the European lute for which the pieces were written. Esteban Canyar performs the music with great sensitivity and expressive mastery, accompanied in the songs by the sweet voice of Palmira Irisarri. The villancicos and sonetos of this album are from two treasures of Spanish music, the books 'Libro de música de vihuela de mano intitulado El Maestro', written by the renowned vihuelist Milán, and the opus 'Los seys Libros del Delphin, de música de cifra para tañer vihuela', written by the magistral musician Narváez of Grenade. The set is completed by instrumental pieces of centroeuropean composers, like the "Emperor's Song" (Mille regretz, the favorite melody of Charles V. composed by Josquin) and one “Improvisation about Quand voie” based on a familiar melody in the repertoire of the troubadours “Quand voie la flor nouvelle”, anonymous. This work is a recreation of the original, but with a completely modern interpretation and newly composed parts by Esteban Canyar.
